Introduction to Dearmouring

Dearmouring is a body-based approach that works with releasing what is often referred to as “armour” in the body. This armour consists of physical tension, habitual patterns, and emotional protection strategies that develop over time in response to life experiences, boundaries, stress, or trauma.

The intention of dearmouring is to support a process in which the body can gradually let go of these layers of tension and protection. Through increased body awareness, presence, and practices involving breath, movement, and touch, it aims to create access to a more open and alive connection with the body and its sensations.

This approach is based on the idea that the body stores and reflects past experiences, and that change does not happen only through the mind, but also through direct bodily experience. As tension is released, this may be experienced as a greater sense of ease, increased emotional fluidity, and a deeper connection to oneself.

Dearmouring is used in various contexts within bodywork and somatic practices, and may also be applied in work with relationships, boundaries, and intimacy. At the same time, it is an area where safety, clear consent, and professional integrity are essential to creating a respectful and supportive space for the process.
